Bentley School Classroom Building

Location: Lafayette, CA
Owner: Bentley School
Completion: July 2003

The new 7,600 square foot classroom building has two levels, eight classrooms, and an exterior walkway that overlooks the central green. The majority of glass in the classrooms faces north for generous natural light. The southern side of the building is more closed, providing an environment that is free of glare and outside noise, despite being less than 50 feet from a freeway. Curving screen walls made of perforated metal partially cover the building’s two stairways and continue the language of the gymnasium roof. It is located adjacent to the gymnasium, with a connection to the gym at the second floor.
