1499 University Avenue
Location: Berkeley, CA
Owner: Berkeley Hospitality LLC
This 3-story, 39 guest room boutique hotel was designed to offer an alternative to the chain motels along University Avenue that cater to visitors of the University. The project occupies a highly visible corner in Berkeley, the Northwest corner of University and Sacramento Streets and two blocks from the North Berkeley Bart station. The site was a former gas station that had its fuel tanks removed and the soils remediated. This boutique hotel was designed with glass and wood accents creating a warm and welcoming look and providing a corner glow in the evening. Glass and wood accents are repeated throughout the building with glass and wood window fins and canopies. The exterior includes Western red cedar.
The lobby is open with large glass windows in deep wood frames. It includes registration and a breakfast counter plus table seating and lounge chairs.
A roof top terrace is located at the 3rd floor roof. The terrace will be limited to hotel guests and staff who would have card key access to the roof. It will include one accessible restroom and a trellis plus seating and tables for the Hotel’s guests to enjoy the outdoors during favorable weather.
