Happy Hound is a unique dog boarding and training facility focused on creating a nurturing, comfortable and safe environment for dogs of all ages. They provide boarding, daycare, training, fitness programs and spa service in a cage-free environment. They came to us in need of a new facility that would better suit their specific needs and allow for growth. We designed a new one-story facility in West Oakland on a previously neglected 1/2 acre triangular site. The 10,800 sq ft building accommodates dogs of various sizes and ages and provides space for dog boarding, play areas and rooms for grooming and food prep. For the humans, there is a large reception area, staff offices and a director’s office. Exterior artwork and signage by local artist Zander Bice.

The project incorporates numerous green building strategies such as storm water treatment planters, bicycle parking, low-flow plumbing fixtures.
