An 800,000 square foot, three-level existing facility on two full blocks in the Mission Bay District of San Francisco was rehabilitated and updated. The 3rd Street ground floor area was converted to retail space; the corner of 23rd Street was transformed into a restaurant. The facility has parking within the buildings.

The San Francisco Art Institute Center for Graduate Studies is located in the American Industrial Center at 2565 Third Street in San Francisco. The 52,000 square foot Center for Graduate Programs consolidated the graduate program of the Institute into one of the largest physical spaces in the area devoted solely to MFA visual art students. Individual, group studios and other facilities are devoted to the 170 enrolled fine arts graduate students at the school, one of the largest programs in the country.
