2550 Shattuck avenue
Location: Berkeley, CA
The siteโs redevelopment includes the demolition of an existing 2-story commercial building to allow for the construction of a new seven-story, 68,843 square foot multi-family building. Approved under the Housing Crisis Act, SB 330, 21% of the units will be made available to low and very low-income qualifying residents. In addition to ground level amenity spaces for residents, the building will provide 3,250 square feet of traditional commercial space as well as three live-work units. The project has open space on three levels, the ground floor, the second floor and the roof. As a downtown project with easy access to public transportation, parking is limited to three covered spaces for loading and unloading only.
The design presents a quiet image along Shattuck and the side street Blake. Simple bays of seamed metal with slightly recessed windows are contrasted by full height pilasters of dark colored plaster. At the ground level, the simple storefronts are punctuated by colored glass entry doors with suspended metal awnings.
